Social Studies Education - Conceptual Framework

The College Education has the following statement as its conceptual framework:  The College of Education prepares exemplary, reflective professionals to serve a diverse global community; it achieves that end through teaching, scholarship, outreach, and partnership at the local, national, and international levels.  The Social Studies Program's conceptual framework is our commitment to knowledgeable, reflective, and active democratic citizenship for the state of Georgia, the nation, and the world through exemplary social studies teacher preparation, scholarship, and service.  Exemplary teacher preparation, scholarship, and service are framed by the program’s commitment to social justice, equity, and democratic principles in both education and the world beyond schools.

The relationship between the program and unit's conceptual framework is one of consistency and mutual support.  Both conceptual frameworks embrace a view of teaching and learning constructed around the ideas of reflection, collaboration, diversity, scholarship, and service.  These themes are evident in the work of program faculty, and in the activities candidates experience in completing the program.
